Expression of Interest for CDU-HREC Volunteer Position: Lawyer

Research is major strength of Charles Darwin University, and the University prides itself on research carried out that benefits the Northern Territory’s people, animals, and environment. 

The Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) of the Charles Darwin University reviews projects and other activities undertaken at the University which involve research conducted with or about people. The committee consists of a mixture of University staff and community members covering various areas of expertise and membership categories as determined by the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2023).


The University is currently seeking applications for a Category E member - Lawyer

Essential Criteria:

•    High level reading and analytical skills.

•    Ability to recognise and to debate ethical issues.

•    Availability to attend schedule CDU-HREC Meetings.

•    Availability to undertake up to six hours reading preparation per meeting.

•    An interest in human research ethics.


The HREC meets seven times each year (on a Wednesday, approximately every six weeks from 9am until approximately midday, depending on the number and quality of projects.

Whilst members currently receive no remuneration, the responsibilities are not onerous, and the experience can be extremely rewarding. New members receive induction and training, plus informal mentoring and support from the HREC Chair, ethics team and experienced committee members.

CDU Casuarina Campus: however, they can also be attended via Zoom.
