Request to use the services of the CDU AEC (become an external user)

Charles Darwin Univeristy (CDU) Animal Ethics Comittee (AEC) will consider providing its services to Organisations external to CDU for research and teaching activities involving animals. The CDU AEC provides services to NT based organisations that are conducting activities in the NT, and that do not have access to other institutional AECs. Applications to become an external user of the AEC are accepted on a per case basis, with acceptance based on the AECs ability to provide the services and project oversight required.

Please be aware that projects undertaken in the Northern Territory do not require approval from an NT-based AEC.

If you wish to use the services of the CDU AEC, please complete the form below. This form will ensure you meet the criteria required to utilise the CDU AEC's services, and that the CDU AEC has the capability to oversee your project/s.

On acceptance as an exteral user of the CDU AEC, a user deed must be entered into outlining mutual responsibilites.
The organisation is required to obtain a Registration to use, or allow an animal to be used, for scientific purposes through the NTG Animal Welfare Branch. Further details can be found here: Apply for a registration to use or allow an animal to be used for scientific purposes | NT.GOV.AU
Before a project application can be reviewed by the CDU AEC the following is required: A signed user deed, a copy of the organisations Registration, and fee payment.
The CDU AEC operates as an accredited AEC under the Animal Protection Act 2018 and acts in compliance with the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. The CDU AEC operates under its Terms of Reference.
